Estate Planning and Probate
Meyer & Felsen assists clients with the ultimate disposition of their assets, including family businesses. We assist each client in developing a unique estate plan designed to minimize estate taxes, generation-skipping transfer taxes, capital gains taxes, and probate expenses.
An estate plan may incorporate a number of devices including, where appropriate, Wills, Living Trusts, Insurance Trusts, Family Limited Partnerships, Qualified Personal Residence Trusts, and intra-family gift programs.
Estate planning deals not only with the transmission of property at death, but also with lifetime management of assets, and planning for possible illness or incapacity through nominations of conservators, durable powers of attorney, and health care directives.
Meyer & Felsen represents executors and administrators during the probate of a decedent’s will, with the objective of prompt and efficient administration of the estate. Meyer & Felsen represents trustees in connection with the administration of trust assets.
By virtue of Mr. Meyer’s and Mr. Felsen’s representation of the successful party in the seminal Marvin v. Marvin case, and Mr. Meyer’s continuing practice drafting and negotiating premarital, post-marital, and cohabitation agreements, Meyer & Felsen has particular sensitivity and experience with respect to the unique estate planning problems and needs of unmarried couples.
